The approach her school is taking is very positive. If it's written, it's writing. Misspellings don't matter. Even if it's the first sound of the first word, it counts. Reading, memorization counts. looking at the pictures for clues counts. Basically everything counts. I think it's perfect for the E so she can gain some confidence in this early phase.
