Cheetah yet again

Brian ran his 4th marathon this weekend - the inaugural Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon. He did amazing - not only did he have a PR at 3:37:30, but he maintained an excellent pace the entire race, achieving his first negative split. He was in the top 9% overall and 18% for his division. Not only that but he somehow managed to get on the front page of the Seattle Times this morning. I'm not kidding. It's a bit of a Where's Waldo, but he's there right under the start banner.

Found him yet?

Still can't find him? Here's a cropped picture:

Brian is, indeed, a cheetah.

Camping trip

McMillerPDX headed for the woods last weekend and took a short camping trip with some good friends. The weather was cool and moist, typical PDX early summer. But with a toasty fire, we all had a great time. Erin learned about s'mores, skipping rocks, and that when you're camping you don't have to take your bath!

The House is Sold

Last Wednesday, we closed on our house. Our debts are paid off, and we've got a big check in the bank. We rent back the house for a month, then we take off for California somewhere around July 15th.

It's pretty incredible for us to see what has changed in the six years we've been in this place. For those of you who didn't see it, this place was a complete and utter shithole when we first moved in. I can't fit all the nights and weekends that we've spend on this place into my head -- we've swung a sledgehammer and wielded a paint roller more times than I care to remember at the moment. On a good note, I think there was only one trip to the ER.

I occasionally try pretending that I'm not the same person with extremely questionable judgment who bought the place, but I'm sure we saw something in this place when we decided to turn it into a home. It's been a great house.

Watchout, Sting.

Erin has a new favorite song. We're helping her out with the lyrics for the next Karaoke night.

Friday Evening Picnic

Last Friday we picnicked at Sellwood Park and then walked down to Oaks Bottom for some natural splendor, shenanigans, and bee-watching.

Picnic

Oh, and did I mention leap-frogging?

Leapfrog

And LOOK! It's like our first photo with the three of us in like, you know, FOREVER. Thank you for taking our picture, stranger with the goofy-looking dogs!

June BBQ

Twas a great day for a BBQ. I lamely didn't take enough pictures to capture the total radtasticness of the day and our friends, but here's what I have. Somehow I took like 90 pictures of Erin and like 3 pictures of our guests. Such is parenthood, I suppose.

We rocked the kiddie pool, barbecued, and socialized. Many thanks to our peeps for coming over, you made our weekend.

Afterwards, Erin and Alex spend nearly five minutes putting ice in their mouths, then spitting the ice back in the cooler.

The Great Outdoors of Camas

McMiller PDX took advantage of a warm, but not icky, pre-summer day by hitting the trail!   In nearby Camas - Lacamas lake.   We did a nice loop, following Lacamas creek, and stopped for refreshment by a small waterfall.  Happy Sunday!

All Aboard!

Woo woooooo! All aboard!

All Aboard!

Sure, this may look cute, but to capture this amazing train-related moment (including schnazzy cap), I had to snap a picture of Erin screaming at the top of her lungs: she's frustrated that she can't get the seat belt buckled. Ah, youth.

Why Running Is Rad

As I get my stuff together for a long run in the morning, it's funny to think about what little equipment this sport requires. This is it: shorts, shirt, socks, shoes, Clif bars, iPod, money, ID. Pretty cool.

Mommy Brain, Revisited.

"Mmmmm.... gonna make brownies.... Got all the ingredients out.... Melted chocolate is smelling good..... OK, mix in the sugar.... mix some more.... There!
Spread out the batter.... hmm... kind of looks funny.... oh well, new recipe..... get them in the oven.... tidy up.... um.  oops.

What are these two eggs still doing here?"

In case you were wondering, eggless brownies taste close to very chocolate-y shortbread.  Not bad at all!
